Diabetes is the main Cause of Diabetic Neuropathy. Due to damage to the nerves in diabetes, there are problems
like tingling, pricking and numbness in the hands and feet. This is called Diabetic Neuropathy. It is one of the most common diabetes problems caused by
the increase in blood sugar level in the body.
What is diabetic neuropathy?
The name 'Diabetic Neuropathy' is used only for problems
related to diabetes nerves (the nerve in the body is the fiber through which
signals are transmitted from one place to another in the body). According to
the affected part of the body, Diabetic Neuropathy occurs in many ways.
1. Peripheral Neuropathy
2. Sensory Neuropathy
3. Autonomic Neuropathy
4. Focal Neuropathy
1. Peripheral Neuropathy
Peripheral Neuropathy damages the nerves around the hands
and feet. Because of this, the affected person has to go through problems like
tingling, pain and numbness in the arms and legs.
Its symptoms first affect the hands and feet and gradually
spread throughout the body. This sensation also occurs while wearing stockings
or glove. That is why doctors also call it stocking-glove pattern. Some people
are also very sensitive to touch.
If this is not taken care of, then the affected nerves can
become worse (in 10 or 20 years). Apart from this, a person may feel these
symptoms:
- Weakness and dizziness
- Weight loss, because muscle weight decreases.
- Loss of balance
- Digestive discomfort
- Problems with sexual activity
- Foot ulcers
These symptoms grow very slowly, so until they become very
severe or complicated, they are not recognized.
Anyone with diabetes can have Peripheral Neuropathy.
However, in these circumstances mentioned below, the risk of its growth is
high.
If you-
- · Are over 55 years old.
- · Have been affected by diabetes for a long time.
- · Blood sugar is not able to be controlled.
- · There is high blood pressure.
- · Weight is too much.
- Peripheral Neuropathy Cause?
Researchers have not been able to ascertain the exact cause
of Peripheral Neuropathy. However, there is no doubt that it is due to high
blood sugar level. Recent research suggests that in addition to high blood
sugar levels, metabolic disorder, changes in blood vessels can
also be caused by high blood pressure. In addition, Peripheral Neuropathy can
also occur due to high fat around the waist and high cholesterol level.
Increasing the amount of sugar in the blood causes damage to
the blood vessels, which affects the supply of blood from nerve cells to other
parts of the body. Due to this, oxygen is not supplied in the nerve cells,
causing damage which cannot be corrected.
Note- If the Diabetic Neuropathy not remains for long time it can be dangerous. if any one have High Blood Pressure with Diabetes or Diabetic Neuropathy then there is a possibility of Paralysis attack in future.
2. Sensory neuropathy
Autonomic Neuropathy starts from the extremities of the body like the feets
or hands and can develop to affect the whole legs and arms. The symptoms of sensory
neuropathy you can
observe at the part of your body where the nerves are affected. Some common symptoms
are Numbness, unable to sense pain, tightening feeling, unexplained burning
sense, sharp stabbing pain ( Noticeable at night ).
3. Autonomic
Neuropathy
Autonomic Neuropathy that occur when nerves of our body is
damaged. In The Autonomic Neuropathy the nerves also affected which carry
information from our brain to spinal cord and then it carried out to Heart,
Blood Vessels, Pupils, Bladder, Intestines and sweat glands.
4.
Focal Neuropathy
The Focal Neuropathy damage which damages to single nerves,
most often in hand and legs, is less common than other like Peripheral or Autonomic
Neuropathy. Entrapment which a common type of Focal Neuropathy occur when nerves compressed in area where
pass through narrow passage between bones and tissues.
Diabetic Neuropathy care-
It is a pity that there is no cure for Diabetic Neuropathy without Diabetic control. Doctors give medicines like pain relievers and anti depressants to reduce its symptoms. Capsaicin cream and ointment also help in getting relief.
